Anyfetch · free and open source

Web search and fetch for AI agents. No API keys.

Anyfetch is a free MCP server and command-line tool from the AliasMode team. It gives Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and other agents web search and web fetch in one small program. Its requests look like a real browser’s requests, so it reads many sites that answer other fetch tools with 403.

Direct answer

Anyfetch is an open-source (Apache-2.0) Rust program that gives AI agents three MCP tools: web_search, web_fetch, and web_fetch_many. It needs no API keys and runs no browser. In our test of 97 popular sites that block AI agents, Anyfetch read 75. curl read 47, and the built-in WebFetch tool of Claude Code read 36.

Install Anyfetch in one command

curl -fsSL https://aliasmode.github.io/anyfetch/install.sh | sh
irm https://aliasmode.github.io/anyfetch/install.ps1 | iex

The installer puts one program on your computer. Then it connects Anyfetch to each agent it finds: Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Hermes Agent, Pi, Cline, Amp, OpenClaw, and Cursor. Start a new agent session, and the tools are there.

Do you only use Claude Code? You can install Anyfetch as a plugin on macOS and Linux:

claude plugin marketplace add aliasmode/anyfetch && claude plugin install anyfetch@anyfetch

Why your agent gets 403

Most agent tools fetch a page with a request that does not look like a browser. Many sites answer that request with 403, or with a page that only says “checking your browser”. The agent then guesses, or it reads a search summary in place of the page.

Anyfetch sends the request that a real browser sends: the same TLS handshake, the same HTTP/2 settings, and the same headers in the same order. The site answers with the page. No browser starts, so a fetch takes about 0.2 seconds and 17 MB of memory.

  • Search with no key: Brave, Yahoo, and DuckDuckGo, plus GitHub, Stack Overflow, Hacker News, arXiv, and research papers
  • Clean Markdown, with links, tables, and code blocks kept
  • PDFs as text, page by page
  • Public APIs and feeds for Stack Overflow, Reddit, X posts, PyPI, and crates.io
  • Full articles on Reuters and Bloomberg, and the answers on Quora
  • Several pages in one call, fetched at the same time

Ten of the questions were about a page on a site that blocks AI agents. The built-in fetch could not read any of those pages. The question set, every answer, and the test scripts are public, so you can run the test again.

Answers, not whole pages

A long page fills the context of an agent with text it does not need. Give Anyfetch a question with the URL, and it returns only the parts of the page that match. The Python 3.15 release notes are 218,000 characters. The answer to one question about them came back in 2,200.

anyfetch fetch https://docs.python.org/3.15/whatsnew/3.15.html --query "sampling profiler rate"
ToolWhat it does
web_searchSearches the web with no API key. Filters by domain and date. Can also read the top results.
web_fetchReads one page as Markdown, or only the parts that answer a question.
web_fetch_manyReads several pages at the same time.

When your agent needs a real browser

Anyfetch reads public pages. It does not log in, click, or run page scripts. Some work needs more: an account, a saved session, a form, or a web app.

For that work, use AliasMode. AliasMode is our free, open-source antidetect browser. Each profile is a real browser with its own fingerprint, cookies, and proxy, and your agent controls it through the AliasMode MCP server. Use Anyfetch to read, and AliasMode to act.

Agents on servers need a home IP

Some sites refuse every request from a cloud server, whatever the request looks like. If your agent runs on a server, send Anyfetch through a residential proxy: put one line in a file, and every search and fetch uses it. AliasMode users get a lower price on static residential IPs.

Frequently asked questions

What is Anyfetch?

Anyfetch is a free, open-source MCP server and command-line tool that gives AI agents web search and web fetch. It is one small Rust program. It needs no API keys and runs no browser.

Is Anyfetch free?

Yes. Anyfetch is open source under Apache-2.0. Search and fetch need no API key and no account.

Which agents does Anyfetch work with?

Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Cursor, Hermes Agent, Pi, Cline, Amp, and OpenClaw are connected by the installer. Any other MCP client can add it as a stdio server. Agents with no MCP support can use the command line.

Why does Claude Code WebFetch return 403?

Many sites refuse requests that do not look like a browser. The built-in fetch tools of most agents send such requests. Anyfetch sends the request that a real browser sends, so many of those sites answer with the page.

Does Anyfetch run a browser?

No. Anyfetch uses plain requests, which is why a fetch takes about 0.2 seconds. When your agent needs a real browser with logins and saved sessions, use AliasMode.

Does Anyfetch get past CAPTCHAs, paywalls, or logins?

No. Anyfetch reads what a site sends to a first-time visitor. A page that needs a CAPTCHA, an account, or a subscription to load stays closed, and Anyfetch reports that with an error code.

Who makes Anyfetch?

The AliasMode team. AliasMode is a free, open-source antidetect browser for managing multiple accounts, with an MCP server for AI agents.
