Requirements

- glibc 2.35 or newer, for example Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, or Fedora 36 and newer
- A terminal
Install with one command
Open a terminal
Open your terminal app.
Paste the install command
The command downloads the app, checks its SHA-256, and puts AliasMode in your home folder.
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/aliasmode/aliasmode/main/scripts/install-linux.sh | bash -s -- --version 0.1.0-beta.64Open AliasMode
Open AliasMode from the app menu. Choose Cloud or Local, then create your first profile.
What the installer does
- Puts the app in ~/.local/share/aliasmode
- Adds AliasMode to your app menu
- Checks the published SHA-256 before it installs
- Asks for your password once (sudo) only when WebKitGTK 4.1 or browser libraries are missing, or on Ubuntu 23.10 and newer to allow the Chrome sandbox with an AppArmor profile
What works on Linux
- The local dashboard
- AliasMode Firefox profiles, with our own open-source antidetect engine
- Chrome profiles on Chromium 155 or CloakBrowser Chrome 146. The app downloads the engine the first time you open such a profile
- Scripts in JavaScript and Python
- The MCP server for AI agents on the same computer
- Remote MCP for AI clients on other computers, in a Cloud workspace
- AliasMode Cloud sync and team folders
- In-app updates
Updates
The app tells you when a new version is available and installs it with one click.
Connect an AI agent
The installer puts the agent helper at ~/.local/share/aliasmode/bin/aliasmode-mcp. To set up your agent during install, add --agent-setup after the version option of the install command.
Uninstall
Delete the folder ~/.local/share/aliasmode and the file ~/.local/share/applications/aliasmode.desktop. Your profiles and settings stay in ~/.local/share/com.aliasmode.desktop until you delete that folder too.
